Every December, my heart goes back to the song Joy to the World:
“Joy to the world, the Lord has come. Let earth receive her King. Let every heart prepare Him room.”
These few sentences carry the whole message of Christmas.
Room for Jesus.
Room for His presence.
Room for joy that doesn’t depend on circumstances.
Room for light that breaks through the noise.
But making room does not happen by accident, especially not in December.
We hurry. We multitask. We chase the to do list. And before we know it, there is no quiet space left in our souls.
That is one of the reasons I treasure Crafting with Purpose. It slows us down just long enough to breathe, be present, and create a little room for God to speak. When our hands are still and our hearts are quiet, we become more aware of Him. More receptive. More open.
And sometimes an incredibly simple project becomes the doorway to a deeper moment with God.
Why an Embossed Foil Ornament
This year for our December GATHER, we are creating embossed foil ornaments. I am inviting you to make one alongside us, even if you are at home.
The ornament in the picture is one I made using the word Joy.
Because that is the heart of Christmas.
Joy to the world, the Lord has come.
But joy does not come from a beautifully decorated tree or a perfectly planned season.
Joy comes from receiving Him.“Let earth receive her King.”
Every time your ornament catches the light, I hope it whispers the reminder:
Prepare Him room.
In your day.In your thoughts. In your home.In your heart.
Ways to Use Your Embossed Foil Ornaments
One of my favorite things about this project is how versatile it is. These little ornaments add beauty and meaning wherever they are placed, and each one becomes a reminder to prepare Him room. Here are a few simple ways to use them in your home or to bless someone else.
Tie Them Onto Your Christmas Stockings
This is one of my favorite ideas. The two doves I made are hanging on our stockings in the photo below, and they add such a beautiful touch. It is a simple way to bring meaning, beauty, and Scripture into your home during the Christmas season.

Send Them as a Card or Tuck Them Into a Gift
These ornaments make the sweetest handmade cards. Tape the ornament to the front of a blank card with washi tape, write a simple message or Scripture, and slip it into an envelope. It is heartfelt, personal, and meaningful. Anyone who receives it will feel seen and loved.
You can also tuck an ornament into a gift bag, tie it onto a present, or include it with your Christmas cookie boxes. Small touches speak deeply.

Hang Them on Your Christmas Tree
Your tree is the perfect place for these handmade ornaments. When the lights catch the foil, the whole design glows. Every time you see it, let it draw your heart back to the joy of His coming and the invitation to slow down and receive Him.
Your Embossed Foil Ornament Project
Below is the simple step by step guide so you can make this at home. It is meaningful, inexpensive, and deeply peaceful to create. It also makes a beautiful gift to tuck into a Christmas card for someone who needs encouragement.

2. Use the design. Tape the cut out design on the back, non shiny side of your foil. Use the embossing tool to trace the outer border of the ornament shape.
3. Emboss the design Trace the inner design lines slowly with the embossing tool. This part is gentle and calming.
4. Check your embossing depth Flip to the shiny side to see how raised the lines are. If you need deeper lines, peel off the paper and use the faint embossed marks on the foil as your guide.Continue until the design is bold and clear.
5. Cut out your ornament Carefully cut along the outer embossed line.
6. Punch the hole Make a small hole at the top with the hole punch.
7. Add twine Tie twine or ribbon through the hole to create your hanger.
8. Mount on a card if you choose Use washi tape to attach your ornament to a blank card. Write a word like Joy, Peace, or Hope at the bottom. Place in an envelope to give as a simple, heartfelt gift.
9. Or display it anywhere Hang it on your Christmas tree. Tie it to a stocking. Place it in a window. Add it to a garland. Use it as a gift tag. Add it to a Christmas table setting.
A Simple Way to Prepare Him Room
As you emboss, trace, cut, and create, I hope you feel the quiet invitation
Slow down
Be here
Make room for Me
This is the heart of Crafting with Purpose. Not perfection. Not productivity. Presence.
Presence with God. Presence with your own heart. Presence with the moment that is right here in front of you.
So as you make your ornament, whisper the old hymn
“Joy to the world the Lord has come. Let earth receive her King. Let every heart prepare Him room. And heaven and nature sing, and heaven and nature sing, and heaven and heaven and nature sing. ”
