This Is the God Who Loves You
Dear Friend,
What do you believe God's face looks like when He looks at you? Really think about that, because the God of Scripture is not standing at a distance, tolerating you. He is not waiting for you to get everything right, and He is not reluctant to be with you.
He is tender and compassionate. He is gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love.
This is the God David knew. In Psalm 103, David speaks directly to his own soul: “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits…”
In other words, Remember, soul.
Remember who God is. Remember His compassion and His steadfast love. Remember that He is a Father who moves toward His children.
Because sometimes the hardest thing isn't believing that God exists. It's believing that this is really who He is.
At our August Gather, Caitlin reminded us that the way we see God changes the way we move toward Him. If we believe His face is filled with disappointment, we hide. If we believe He is waiting for us to fail, we pull away. But when we begin to trust that His face toward us is love, something changes.
We stay.
We remain long enough for Him to show us who He really is. We remain long enough for His truth to become louder than the lies we've believed. And we remain long enough for our lives to become woven more and more deeply with His.
That is what we practiced together at Gather. Women gathered around tables, creating flower wall hangings, talking, laughing, sharing, and making something that would carry one simple reminder home: Remain.
Below is a little glimpse of our evening together.
As you move into this week, remember who your God is. He is tender. He is compassionate. He is gracious. He is abounding in steadfast love.
You do not have to pull away from Him.
Stay.
